Melodious Monk introduced to the human race his understanding of the word "GUNS". When this offering was found floating around March 28, 2007 located in Japan. Officials yearned to sabotage all evidence of its existence but sadly failed because of the growth of the World Wide Web and independent retailers that kept the very rear recorded documentary titled "GUNS". Melodious Monks album "GUNS" is a clever glimpse into the harsh realities of life, and the effects that the common perils can result in. Dark scenic production, punchy lyrical content, and realistic subject matter are held within these pistols.
Guns was originally released in Japan, and slowly made it's way to the U.S. This is the second recording within Monk's catolog that follows the journey that was created after the rlease of Ghetto Blues. Guns is known for the introduction to the symbolic language created by the Monk's called "Imbakwa". Their are three exclusive covers that were created for "GUNS". The original cover was created in Japan by artist other than Monk and the second and third can be found in the galaxy.Listen to the full album free →
Many prayers are released by those in need of answers to a mysterious question, "Why?" Unknowingly, many of the answers have always been found within the same prayers that are rendered. In life, we all share the same desire to express our deepest secrets, our frustration, our hopes and dreams with someone who is willing to listen. "Hymns", defined by Melodious Monk as: Questions that are in need of divine answers, is a short EP of (8) tracks where Melodious Monk takes the role of a writer documenting the prayers of many individuals around the world which would usually go unheard by the human ear, and translates them into each collective song .
Hymns is the first (EP) that Monk worked on that he allowed a different producer to to completely cover the overall mood and "ShelShock" did an amazing job creating the soundscape. Hymns will take you through a realm never before explored by the human ear on such a wide scale. Take your time and examine each Hymn to develop the answers to many of the same problems that we all undergo on a regular basis. You might just find one of your prayers symbolically wrapped within this mysterious, gritty, and honest EP.Listen to the full album free →
The influence of any drug has been said to put it's users in a dark place. Many search for an escape from the anxieties of life through addiction to a substance, sadly there left digging themselves a deeper grave to lay in. The Forbidden Drug was produced to mimic that emotional darkness, the pain of solidarity, and the battle with a horrible addiction. Many lyricist in todays day and age stray away from being too preachy but Melodious Monk doesn't hold back his biblical conviction and known remedy for conquering any drug addiction on this album. The album ranges from twisted stories of murder and jealousy to passionate pleads for forgiveness, battles with faith, the reality of losing what you may love the most, perceptions of God, and a glimpse at what is needed to beat any addiction. Through such intense subject matter you fully get the chance to experience what it feels like to be under the influence of "The Forbidden Drug".
The Forbidden Drug is entirely produced by Melodious Monk himself with no features and has some of the darkest soundscapes packed with organic sounds, viscous break beats, dusty lo-fi ambience, haunting strings, and horrifying chord compositions. There are three main focal points of the album, first: how the drug came into existence, second: the side effects of The Forbidden Drug, and third: how to beat the addiction.Listen to the full album free →
When I reminisce on James Dilla "Detroit" Yancey, I dwell on Detroit. Dilla embodies Detroit. Though I've never physically visited the feeling I received when I first heard "Welcome 2 Detroit" on February 27th 2001 took me on a trip. Music I believe should take you somewhere, and Dilla had the ability to do just that. J Dilla is "Detroit"! In 2012 as a musician and lyricist I want to visit the world but not physically and take my family with me, music I believe is beyond the physical plane so I decided to start the year off visiting the home of one of the greatest producer's that ever touched a MPC and that's none other than Jay Dee. With the love I had for his first solo effort I wondered what it would be like if I visited Detroit and J Dilla had the chance to show me around, so instead of just lyrically expressing my feelings over Dilla tracks I wanted to feel like we were in the studio together and I needed to get direction from Dilla's lyrics on what I should reflect on.
I choose only to do five of the original 14 tracks on "Welcome 2 Detroit" because I had no intent to recreate Dilla's album but give a sample of how great the original album is, I hope that this project motives listeners to visit Dilla's first solo album if they haven't before, or even revisit it again. I would like to dedicate this project to the Yancey family, and to the legend "James Jay Dee Yancey" born February 7th 1974. Please view "Still Shinning" above it is a JDilla dedication video created by B. Kyle. Download "Visiting Detroit" the dedication album I created for Dilla below for free.Listen to the full album free →

In 1979 "Rappers Delight" was released and it was the first full Hip Hop song to hit airwves and bring life to a culture that has become so much more than music in todays day and age. Melodious Monk's story begins on a planet called "Violet Apes" a name that was given to the planet because of the contamination from a cloud of purple colored pollution that gives the appearance of being Violet. The name is also derived from the violent nature of the mature apes that roam the planet. This race was formed from Albert II; Albert II was the second monkey sent to space on June 14, 1949; the government reported that Albert II died due to parachute failure along with many of the monkeys that were sent to space each year that followed. Albert II did not die but was the first to arrive on Violet after being lost in space. Most of his family members arrived shortly after scientists sent more into space for testing purposes.
Albert II was trained by humans to understand many commands, trigger words, and symbols that helped him to communicate with his human trainers. These symbols became a language for the family that soon populated Violet. The language was called "Imbakwa", which means symbols in the Monk language. (Please refer to the "Guns" album booklet) This language was taken from English words; but the words were given their own definition. After landing on Violet, Albert II was forced to adapt to the planet's content for food resources. Miraculously the oxygen from Albert's ship formed a mist that slowly spread through the planet strong enough for Albert to breathe and remain alive until the arrival of his female companion which at this point her name is unknown. Albert II and his female companion were able to reproduce a multitude of offspring before his death. Their children expanded across Violet.
Melodious Monk was one of the offspring that originated from Albert's first son, Albert's first son died before Melodious was born and Monk's mother died giving birth to Melodious, which resulted in him being an orphan.
Melodious was raised by distant cousins and developed an interest in a recording mechanism found on Albert's ship that was unused. After being told by his cousins about a place called "Earth" that was known to be a myth in Violet Monk began to record documentation of his life in Violet. He then created small rockets to send his recordings into the galaxy hoping that they would reach "Earth" one day.
Years later as astronauts traveled space to fuel satellites, their ship was hit with what appeared to be a tape recorder, once taken into the ship and played back the astronauts became afraid to hear that someone on the recording was speaking about a planet called "Violet Apes". The astronauts returned to Earth and submitted the tape to NASA. This information was hidden as classified information for years. NASA set out on a voyage to find "Violet Apes". Once the planet was found Melodious Monk was discovered and brought back to Earth for research. He was secretly contained until he realized that their plot was to destroy all evidence of him and the planet's existence forcing him to escape.
Melodious Monk has secretly released documentation of his experiences in coded form ever since his departure through the internet. He calls the internet "The Galaxy" hoping to reveal the truth about his planet, language, and the government. Monk calls the government "The Beast". Melodious has not been physically seen and chooses to use one trusted human representative to expose his documentations. Please spread the news but keep this information away from "The Beast".
